I have posted a draft copy of Chapter 1 in Microsoft Word format: Chapter 1: Cautious cars (a Microsoft Word document). (Sorry, but as I make revisions, it is easiest just to post the most recent Word file.)

Typographical errors: The chapter is riddled with them. Please don’t waste time collecting them for me. This chapter has already been rewritten once and it will be rewritten again. Professional copy editors will review it. So, many of the typos you will see have already been caught and changed. many sections no longer exist.
